On Tuesdays I write a weekly column called “Curtain Raisers” where I take an theater artist to a show of his/her choosing. The main two questions I ask are what do you admire in this work, and how is this work in conversation with your work. The results vary wildly, and I learn a lot every time. Young Jean Lee at “King Lear”, Thomas Bradshaw at “Godspell”, Rinne Groff at “Chinglish”, Ben Shenkman at “Seminar”, Itamar Moses at “Blood and Gifts”, Sarah East Johnson at “Big Apple Circus”, Kate Valk at Misterman, Rajiv Joseph at “Close Up Space”.
